With outrageous views, courses designed by golfing greats like Palmer and Norman, and those extra-long high-altitude drives, Vail, Colo., knows how to make every golfer feel like Tiger Woods. Now Antlers at Vail makes a good thing even better with its new Build-Your-Own Vail Golf Package – crediting $100 off the regular room rate of each night’s stay May 15 – June 26 and September 9 – October 14, 2013, toward golf, meals, or any activities or retail purchases made in Vail.

“Show us your receipts for up to $100 a day spent in Vail, and we’ll credit that amount to your room bill,” says Antlers at Vail General Manager Rob LeVine, who says the new golf package is “perfect for spontaneous guests” who don’t want to be tied to a specific itinerary in advance.

With 17 championship golf courses within a 38-mile radius, half of them open to the public, Vail Valley is a links-lover’s dream. To help create the perfect golfing getaway, Antlers at Vail’s expert travel staff – including LeVine, an avid golfer – can recommend the perfect course, as well as arranging tee times, restaurant reservations and more. Vail area golf courses include:

  • Vail Golf Club – highlighted by views of the Gore Mountain Range, this mountain-style 18-hole course is a favorite with guests and locals alike, featuring uniquely challenging fairways with everything from bunkers to beaver ponds to test golfers’ accuracy.
  • Eagle Ranch Golf Club – recently honored by Colorado Avid Golfer Magazine as the “Best Mountain Course in Colorado for under a $100 green fee,” this Arnold Palmer-designed public course has the feel of a links course plus an extensive practice facility.
  • Eagle Vail Golf Club – this unique 18-hole river-and-woods course crosses the scenic Eagle River several times on the front nine and challenges golfers with big elevation changes among aspen, lodgepole pine and fir trees on the back nine. Brand new GPS-equipped golf carts help keep golfers on track.
  • Sonnenalp Golf Club – located in the Edwards Valley, this 7,100-yard semi-private course has been recognized by Golf Digest in its “Top 100 Resort Courses” and consistently ranks as one of Colorado’s top three courses in Colorado Golf Magazine. Antlers GM LeVine is a Sonnenalp member. “I’m always looking for an excuse to get to know Antlers guests better, if you happen to need a fourth – hint, hint,” he says with a smile.

The Antlers at Vail’s Build-Your-Own Vail Golf Package is available May 15 – June 26 and September 9 – October 14, 2013 and provides a discount of up to $100/night based on Vail purchases made that day. Antlers at Vail rates start at $240/night for a Studio Suite ($140 after $100 credit). Unfortunately, the Build-Your-Own Vail Golf Package cannot be combined with any other discounts.

Vail Valley golf events of note taking place during Antlers at Vail’s spring offering of its Build-Your-Own Vail Golf Package include the 10th Mountain Division Tribute Tournament on May 27 at the Red Sky Ranch Golf Club in Eagle County with proceeds to fund ongoing educational programs and exhibits at the Colorado Ski Museum, headquartered in Vail. Then on May 31, the Eagle Chamber holds its annual fundraising event the Screaming Eagle Golf Tournament at the Eagle Ranch Golf Club, with proceeds going toward the Eagle Chamber Scholarship Fund, awarded annually to an Eagle Valley High School Senior. And on June 15, the Golf Channel will hold its Vail Valley Open at Eagle Ranch Golf Club, providing an authentic PGA Tour experience for players of all abilities.

Celebrating  Vail’s 50th remains the name of the game for the 2013 Vail ski season, right through its April spring skiing finale, with plenty of special late-season festivities – many of them free. The fun ranges from a new Nordic twist on the venerable Taste of Vail’s 22nd year through a tricky closing day event featuring “floatable athletes” launching from snow to icy pond. To keep all those good times company, the Antlers at Vail hotel is offering a 30-percent discount on its lodging rates for the month of April, bringing the rate for a studio suite below $200. The insider Vail travel experts at the Antlers also recommend these five reasons to enjoy their home resort this April:

1)    Taste of Vail – the iconic spring food and wine festival turns 22 this year, showcasing the area’s finest chefs and nation’s top vintners. A new Nordic Wine Tour kicks off the Taste with cross-country ski/snowshoe wine and cheese stations on the Vail Golf Course. April 3 – 6. Event tickets start from $50.

2)    Spring Back to Vail Celebration – a week-long end-of-season bash in honor of Vail’s 50th, featuring free live concerts including reggae legend and Grammy-winner Jimmy Cliff, performing April 14 at the Solaris Plaza in Vail Village. April 8 – 14.

3)    50th Anniversary Film Night – a look back at Vail’s 50 years in film from Roger Cotton Brown, who created the first ever promotional film about Vail in the early 60s. April 4 and 11. Show is free with ticket, available at Lionshead Vail Welcome Center from 9 a.m. on the day of the show only. Film starts at 5:30 p.m.

4)    Skiing Heritage Week – a U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame induction ceremony April 13 is a highlight in a week of events that also includes the Ishpeming International Film Festival of classic ski movies. April 8 – 14. $350 for the All-Access Pass.

5)    Vail World Pond Skimming Championships – thousands watch as costumed skiers and snowboarders vie for fame and glory as they attempt to clear a 100-foot, ice cold pond in this wacky annual close-of-season event. April 14. Lake Golden Peak at Vail Mountain’s Golden Peak Base Area. Free to watch; $75 to participate.

Antlers at Vail’s April discount includes 30 percent off regular rates for the month, with a $285/night studio suite available for $199. Check the Antlers at Vail website calendar or chat with Antlers staff for additional events – from family snowshoeing to a Segovian pig roast – to accompany an April Vail visit.

Complimentary use of snowshoes now at the Antlers

Wednesday, December 19th, 2012

There is more than one way to enjoy the snow here in Vail. At the Antlers we are now offering free use of snowshoes to our guests. Take a pair of our new snowshoes out for a light Vail snowshowl on the bike path or for a vigorous walk up Vail Mountain. Want suggestions on where to go?  Here are some great options;

1. The Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series continues on Sunday, January 6th.  Register HERE! (Fun for all abilities, beginners included.)

2.  Looking for a unique Vail experience or a kid friendly activity in Vail?  Look no further than Moonlight Vail Snowshoe Tours!  Tours depart from the Discovery Center at Eagle’s Nest (top of the Eagle Bahn gondola in Lionshead) and are available on January 18, 19, 20 & 21 and February 15, 16, 17 & 18 from 7-8:30pm.  Learn astronomy and the habits of nocturnal animals while you snowshoe though the pristine silence of the moonlit mountains.  (Reservations recommended.)

3. How about a full moon snowshoe with a Vail local?  Stop by the front desk and ask our staff.  There are a lot of great ideas out there, but we think the best one is to ask us…that way you always get something personal!

4.  Looking to connect with the solitude and beauty of the mountains in a more laid back way?  Grab a set of our snowshoes and head up Vail mountain at dusk, take a leisurely stroll along the Vail Golf course starting at the Vail Nordic Center, get off the grid with a hike at Vail Pass, or take a short drive to Meadow Mountain in nearby Minturn (be sure to stop by the most historic Vail Valley restaurant/bar at The Minturn Saloon).

However you choose to enjoy this great winter activity, always be safe.  For a few helpful tips for your journey, click HERE.

Happy trails!

Adventure Film School students capture Teva Games

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

If you are lucky enough to be out enjoying the Teva Mountain Games this weekend keep an eye out for some very focused camera men and women. Most are students with the Outside Adventure Film school, a partnership between Outside magazine,  and Serac Adventure Films. While most of us are enjoying the activities, basking in the sun, and relishing the crisp clean mountain air, they are working their butts off! Students, with the aid of some very talented instructors and experience film makers will be spending their days trying to get the best footage of the games and their participants and spending their nights editing and piecing it together to create a short adventure film. The results of their hard work will be showcased here at the Antlers on Tuesday June 5! Come by and see the fruits of their labor!

The last adventure film school students came away making an amazing documentary entitled High Ground. I strongly recommend that if you have a chance you MUST go see this movie. It is currently touring the country through film festivals and has earned (deservedly) a lot of accolades!

Sage Adventures Vail Razor buggy tour

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

A couple of us went on a Polaris Razor off road adventure tour with Vail’s Sage Adventures whose Vail adventure office is over in Lionshead, just 100 yards from the Antlers at Vail condominiums.  The site of the jeep riding was about 30 minutes west of Vail near Castle Peak.   Our tour guide “Cole” set us up with our machines and off we went.   We climbed quite a bit of vertical to get to altitude and it was a nice pretty area with specatuclar views.  We were searching for some moose that Cole said were up there but we just ran into a few deer (well, maybe we didn’t RUN into them).  The Panageas family staying at the Antlers at Vail during this week, was also on the tour.  Dad and all three kids all rode in one buggy.  Mom was at the conference at the Marriott (too bad for mom.)  $330 gets you the buggy for a 2.5 hour tour + snack, etc.  Nice package when you can get 4 people for the ride.  Beats a jeep tour in my book.  Chris R.

Mountain Roller Coaster, Glenwood Springs

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Many Antlers guests have asked about “mountain roller coasters”.  Vail doesn’t have one at the moment, but we are working on it.  But if you are in the Vail Valley for a week or so, many guests will visit Glenwood Springs Caverns and fun park which has a cave tour, bungey jumping, a mountain roller coaster, food, games, and more.  Here is a quick clip of Darci and Amy from the front desk riding the roller coaster this past spring.

Ski Joring

Monday, March 7th, 2011

If you are looking for something a little different to do on a weekend,  I suggest if at all possible heading to Leadville Colorado when they are having their annual Ski Joring event. It typically happens in March and I had the chance to attend this weekend and what fun it was. As someone who grew up ridding horses and skiing I can’t believe I never got involved in this long before now but I guess they just don’t do things like this in New Mexico! The town spends several day putting snow back on the main street packing it down and building jumps. There are two different courses depending on skill level Sport skiers have higher jumps than the Open registration and Legend skiers. They even have a children event (they get pulled by snowmobiles at a much slower pace).

Leadville is a nice little town to spend a day in and a short drive from Vail, dress warm and take your camera. I’m off to start training my horses for next years event!
