The Lost lake mountain bike trail is one of the top mountain bike trails in Vail Colorado. It is quite a long loop depending on how many “add ons” you do. It is a 3-4 hour 25 mile ride. So bring food and water. You start at the Antlers at Vail condominiums and conference center. Head up the road, across the pedestrian bridge and take a left down the bike path for about a 1/4 of a mile. Take a right up Red Sandstone road and continue up a couple of switch backs until you get to the rock/gravel road of Red Sandstone going to Piney lake. You then travel up this road about 3 miles? until you get to a fork. Take the right fork to Lost Lake. Continue for another 30 minutes or more until you get to Lost lake. If you hit any forks, just stay on the most traveled path. If you get off, virtually all the roads end up at the hiking trail head to Lost Lake anyhow. From here on it is single track around the lake and back down to a parking lot off of Red Sandstone. You might be 2-3 hours into your ride at this point. Take a left on Red Sandstone but only go a block before taking a right onto another forest service road. You are now heading south back to Vail on top of a big ridge. When you top out at a camp site, take a left off the main road to a faint double track. Follow the trail/road down until you pick up a crazy single track called Buffehr creek. You’ll be taking a number of switch backs before intersecting the Vail North Trail on your left. Follow this back for even more vertical downhill until you exit onto Red Sandstone road again near Vail village.

Stop the Presses. What a Deal. How Can We Do It? A Night Free and It’s This Much Fun? Save The Date. COMING UP THIS SATURDAY

If you’ve never participated in a highway clean-up, you don’t know what your missing. The Antlers is offering a free nights vail lodging if you would like to join us for a couple of hours in the morning to “pick up” our adopted stretch of I70 at the top of Vail Pass.

All you need to do is join us around 9:30 AM on Saturday the 21st of August. We will be transporting all the lucky participants to the promised land, we do our deed, and then enjoy a BBQ lunch afterwords. We have been doing this since 1988 and the party gets better every year. The best part is you get to keep anything of value you might find along the road ( money, tires, sweatshirts, un-opened pop cans, to name just a few things ).

Check out the SPECIALS tab at the top of our web page for the greatest deal in August ever offered.

Vail, Colorado —March 8, 2010—Cherry blossoms may be budding in some parts of the country, but Colorado gardeners know that April is typically the state’s second-snowiest month. The biggest April snowfall on record was in 1933, when the state received a whopping 33.8 inches of snow. This April, the Antlers at Vail – just footsteps from the ski resort and gondola – offers its ‘Spring Snowball Savings’ deal with lodging discounts that increase incrementally for longer stays. Coupled with Vail’s abundant snow and springtime sunshine, skiers can enjoy Vail’s best at amazing prices.

Offered April 11 – 18, 2010, Antlers Vail lodging discounts range from 10% to 50% off depending on the length of stay:

Stay 1 night – save 10%
Stay 2 nights – save 20%
Stay 3 nights – save 30%
Stay 4 nights – save 40%
Stay 5 nights or more – save 50%

More good news for skiers and boarders: Vail Resorts is offering deeply discounted multi-day lift tickets from April 12 through closing day (tentatively scheduled for April 18) for just $199, good for up to 7 days of skiing. Vail’s closing day party is a longstanding tradition; each year, hundreds of revelers – many in costume – gather at the top of Vail Mountain to celebrate another great season. “It might be snowing sideways or bright and sunny, but one thing is a constant: the party will go on,” says Antlers GM Rob LeVine, a Vail local for more than 30 years.

Since 1972, the Antlers has offered a unique Vail lodging experience in a relaxed mountain setting. The Antlers Vail condominiums – With condominiums ranging from studio suites up to four bedrooms and plenty of space to spread out, each room at the Antlers offers all the comforts of home: fully-equipped kitchens, fireplaces, outdoor balconies, free Internet access, complimentary parking in a heated indoor garage, a heated pool and hot tubs with million-dollar views. The Antlers Vail is conveniently located in the Lionshead area of Vail with numerous restaurants, galleries and shops within walking distance, and the free Vail town shuttle stops just footsteps away.

That’s right, I have unofficially decided that the singular title for an employee at the Antlers at Vail Condos is “Antler.” This is largely because I really like the alliteration it gives the title. But enough digression. I’m looking to bring you loyal readers a new regular column here on the blog. Not to compete with, but to supplement Ratz’s regular snow updates. I endeavor here to bring you a local’s insight into anything and everything Vail through interviews with our loyal and dedicated staff. First up is Amy Scherm, a 2 season veteran of the Antlers front desk and even longer Vail local.

Favorite Chair or Run on Vail: Chair 2.
Ed’s Note: She’s not exactly lying, but to really find out you’ll need to go skiing with her (and try to keep up).

Best Pizza: Old Forge Pizza. The garlic knots are the best.

Best Apres Ski: Garf’s. It’s got a good scene and plenty of TV’s to watch the game.
Ed’s Note: On a sunny day they have a killer deck too. And I suppose its there on a not sunny day. But its best enjoyed on a sunny day.

Best Fine Dining Restaurant: Lancelot. Great steaks, and great portions for the price.

Best Non-Skiing Activity: Ski Biking. Its fast, and its dark out.

Best Gear/Rental Shop: Ski Base.

Best Nightlife: Is it cheesy to say The Club?

Best Reason to Look Forward to the Snow Going Away: The activities: mountain biking, hiking, whitewater rafting… and the weather.

Best Reason to Go Downvalley: The movie theater (the only one within 20 miles of Vail) and Loaded Joe’s. Loaded Joe’s is great for morning coffee and drinks at night.

Anything Else? Best Lodging: Antlers at Vail

So there we have it, straight from the local’s mouth. Tune in again sometime soon when I will interview whoever else happens to be working with me the next time I remember to write one of these. In the meantime, if there’s anything you’d like someone’s take on next week, leave me a comment or drop me a line at rgray@antlersvail.com.

A while ago, I asked my co workers to answer that question, and for us it’s not an easy answer. Why would we lodge in the place where we work IF we would ever consider doing it? I got very good answers. Here are 10 good reasons why we would stay at the Antlers at Vail:

1. Feeling a part of the village yet away from it; being close to restaurants and shops then coming back and seeing the mountain around me,

2. Being able to sometimes have a choice of units; each unit conveys a different character,

3. All units have a balcony and fireplace,

4. Units have fully equipped kitchens,

5. It is located 150 yards from the “gondy”,

6. Marshmallows for hot chocolate in the lobby,

7. Maid service EVERYDAY,

8. Awesome Catering Company

9. Free rides around town (when staff is available),

My answer? I would stay at the Antlers simply because this place has a heart and a soul, and I can truly feel both every time I need help from anybody in our staff.

You can also tell us some of the reasons why you stay at the Antlers, thanks for being a part of our family! (If you have never stayed with us, I invite you to… it will be an awesome experience!)

Not much to report and even fewer pictures (oops, I deleted my photos). But Two Elk Lodge is now open and I have an exciting picture of that ! I had other pics of the back bowls but they were deleted, they are lost. Believe it or not, Chair 14 was the place to be today and other Antlers guests confirmed this. Chair 14 is that short and quick chair that goes up to the Two Elk restaurant. No one was there and the runs were all groomed to perfection. We are still holding out for more snow. They say Tuesday/Wednesday and they better be right. Rumors abound that they might open small portions of the Back Bowls but I still think they are holding out for more snow. If you are looking for some Vail lodging for New Year’s weekend we still have a couple of 2 Bedroom condos starting on December 30th (3 night minimum) Chris R.
