Vail Symposium The American Nile with Pete McBride (March 15)
Examine one of our most precious resources with photojournalist Pete McBride. His recent photo investigation examines the state of the Colorado River from source to sea. Raised on a cattle ranch in Colorado, Pete is a graduate of Dartmouth College and was awarded a one-year John S. Knight Fellowship for Professional Journalists at Stanford University. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (March 16-17)
The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has earned a reputation as one of the most acclaimed international ambassadors of American culture, promoting the uniqueness of the African-American cultural experience and the preservation and enrichment of American modern dance. Celebrating their 50th anniversary, the acclaimed modern dance company presents two unique programs of Ailey classics, including their most popular work, “Revelations.” Following in Mr. Ailey’s visionary footsteps, artistic director Judith Jamison continues her inspired leadership, and today, any performance by the ensemble powerfully confirms the company’s towering reputation. In terms of artistry, strength, and passion, nothing beats Ailey. The two evenings will feature different programs. Program A on Tuesday, March 16 and Program B on Wednesday, March 17. American Ski Classic (March 17-20)
America’s original Pro/Am celebrity ski event returns to Vail Mountain March 17-20 as the 2010 Korbel California Champagne American Ski Classic takes Golden Peak by storm. Some of the greatest names in ski racing history, including Olympic, World Championships and World Cup champions will kickoff the festivities Thursday, March 18, as old rivalries are rekindled in the Volvo Legends of Skiing Giant Slalom competition, followed by a special edition of the Bud Light Street Beat free concert series featuring Cowboy Mouth.
Chicago City Limits Presents ‘Wkiphobia’ (March 21) Chicago City Limits is New York City’s legendary improv comedy show. Founded in Chicago in 1977 by actors participating in The Second City workshops, the group relocated to New York in 1980 and began an Off-Broadway run of over 8,500 performances. In their program Wikiphobia, the cast surfs the web at high-speed, taking issue with the issues and finding comedic links between the biggest stories in the news. Whether it’s global warming or global blogging, networking or Netflix, international affairs or interpersonal ones, Chicago City Limits delivers an evening of fast-paced, high-energy improv comedy! The film “Fuel” at the Vilar Center for the arts (March 25)
During his tenure, President Bush declared the United States addicted to oil. This award-winning documentary “Fuel” examines solutions to our oil (in)dependence. Vail Symposium Rethinking Peace: How Women are Making a Difference (April 1)
This event is hosted by the Vail Marriott which is right next to the Antlers at Vail hotel. This program starts at 5:30pm and honors the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Resolution 1325, which was the first resolution ever passed by the Security Council that specifically addresses the impact of war on women and women’s contributions to conflict resolution and sustainable peace. Vail Film Festival (April 1 – 4)
Presented by the Vail Film Institute, a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to fostering independent cinema, the Vail Film Festival strives to encourage artistic innovation and promote new and creative film making. World premieres, independents, celebrities, forums and parties make this an event that should not be missed.
Danielia Cotton (April 7)
Bud Light Street Beat Series featuring Danielia Cotton, Arrabelle at Vail Square 6pm. The Los Angeles Times declared, “Danielia Cotton brings a freshness to the soul-rock formula, not to mention a contagious fervor that is near irresistible.” Danielia Cotton turns up the volume with her style of music. Taste of Vail (April 7 – April 10)
In its 20th year, the Taste of Vail is the nation’s premier spring food and wine festival, held at several venues throughout North America’s #1 Ski Resort. During the annual four-day event, upwards of 5,000 people are able to “taste the Vail Valley lifestyle” which showcases Vail’s world-famous resort village set against dramatic mountain vistas. Teva Mountain Games (June 3 – 6)
The country’s largest celebration of mountain sport, soul and culture returns once again when The Teva Mountain Games returns to Vail, June 3-6, 2010. Professional and amateur outdoor adventure athletes from the Vail Valley and around the world will converge upon the mountains and rivers of Vail to compete in eight sports and 23 disciplines including: x-country, freeride, slopestyle and road cycling, freestyle, 8-Ball, sprint and extreme kayaking, raft paddlecross, World Cup bouldering, Stand Up Paddle boarding, as well as trail and road running, and the GNC Ultimate Mountain Challenge. In addition to the athletic events, the Teva Mountain Games will include a mountain photography competition, adventure film school, film festival ,an interactive exhibition and demo area, live music, and mountain lifestyle parties.
