USA Pro Cycling Challenge, Vail Colorado

Antlers at Vail Room rates are 35% off for the USA Pro cycling Challenge August 24-26th.  Riverside/mountain view Studio suite rooms from $156 per night with a full size kitchen.

The USA Pro Cycling Challenge is the most demanding bike race ever held on American soil, with racers experiencing breathless altitudes, day after day. The race is on the level of the Tour de France, bringing the high speeds, danger and adrenaline of professional biking to elevations over 2 miles high in some of the most picturesque terrain in the world—the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  August 25th is Stage 3 of the USA Cycling Challenge and is the Vail Time Trial going up the old Highway 6 road towards Vail Pass.  It starts right from Vail village.  August 26th will be Stage 4 of USA Cycling Challenge and goes from Avon Colorado to Steamboat.

Here is the “TEAM ANTLERS” bicycling team who should be around town watching the races in August.  Come join us !

Mountain Roller Coaster, Glenwood Springs

Many Antlers guests have asked about “mountain roller coasters”.  Vail doesn’t have one at the moment, but we are working on it.  But if you are in the Vail Valley for a week or so, many guests will visit Glenwood Springs Caverns and fun park which has a cave tour, bungey jumping, a mountain roller coaster, food, games, and more.  Here is a quick clip of Darci and Amy from the front desk riding the roller coaster this past spring.

Vail Summer Snow tubing on Vail mountain

Vail’s gondola opens up this weekend (June 3-5) and with a bit of snow still up on the top of Vail Mountain, they are opening up the tubing hill and the kids snowmobiling area.  Don’t worry, down in town it is all green and the flowers are out, but YES, us locals are a bit sick of the snow up on our mountains.  The climbing wall and bungee trampoline are also open.  The gondola will run from 10am – 6pm and then the tubing and snowmobiling are available 11am – 5pm.  If you signed up for an Epic Pass for next year, your current pass will get you up.

Tubing   $25

Tubing + Lift  $39

Tubing + Lift +Lunch  $44

Vail’s Chair 4 jump

Powder day before the end of the ski season and people were lined under Chair 4 Mountain Top Express to go off the big jump.  Not the best of pictures (snowing a bit), but you can see quite a few people checking it out and getting ready to go off the cliff up on top and then off the jump.

Groomers below on April 23rd, record snow with 524 inches of snow for the ski season including 12 inches on the last day of the ski season.

Another 3-4 inches of new snow April 14th Vail

Mountain Top Express VailVail ski mountain and the Antlers at Vail hotel are not done for the ski season just yet. We have over a another week to go and there isn’t a brown spot on the mountain. Even before the 3-4 inches of snow today, the base on the top of Vail mountain was 77 inches. Sort of sad we’ll be closing in Vail on April 24th. We could probably go until May 24th this year!  Rest of this week, stay 3 nights at regular price and get the 4th, 5th and 6th nights free.  Rates from $160 per night for a full Vail condo on the river.

Backcountry Vail skiing, Vail snow

Even though it is April here in Colorado (isn’t it April everywhere?), we still have lots of snow in the high country.  The base up on Vail mountain near Mid-Vail is over 80 inches and more snow is expected this Sunday April 10th.   Here are a couple of photos and a video from a recent back country hut trip to the Peter Estin hut near Vail Colorado that Chris Ratzlaff (Antlers at Vail Director of All things Big and Small) and Tom Schlader (Antlers Director of Preservation) did this past week.

Video of us measuring the snow outside the Peter Estin Hut, we figured it was around 95-120 inches depending on where you measured
